Welcome Feral Writers! Welcome, fellow unhinged word monsters!
Are you looking for a monthly writing challenge to help give you a kick in the ass to meet your word count goals? Are you disappointed with the actions of...certain other writing challenges, especially recently?
Welcome to Feral Unhinged Writing Month -- a rolling, monthly writing challenge created by![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
ofmonstrouswords in the wake of the implosion of Nano, and designed to recapture some of the spirit of old school Nano: the pushing oneself to reach unhinged heights. The kick in the ass. The sense of community.
The rules are simple:
1. Any project, any goal. There are no minimum word count requirements & you don’t need to start a new project. What do YOU feel is an unhinged, feral goal for you to strive for? Do that.
2. Join in on the hashtag, the Trackbear Monthly Leaderboard, the community here, or the Discord — or all of the above. Your choice.
3. Write anything you like. Finish that WIP, start a new novel, write a book of poems.
4. Comparison is the thief of joy. This is for fun. If joining the monthly leaderboard is hurting your writing, then don't do it.
5. Track whatever you like: words, chapters, hours, coffees consumed.
6. Cheer on your fellow unhinged, feral writers.
7. Celebrate goal-reaching wins, no matter the size.
8. Don’t take it too seriously and don’t worry if someone is ahead of you. (Unless it spurs you on — then use that competitiveness!)
9. Don’t be a jackass. We’re all writers & we wanna write. If you’re a jackass in the Discord or here I will kick you. If you’re a jackass on social media, uh. I can’t do anything there but block you, and I will.
10. I ask for this challenge if you are logging words in the monthly leaderboard they be actual words *you have written*. Which means if you are putting prompts into ChatGPT and using that to spew out words, those words *do not count* for FerUnWriMo.
11. That said, I can’t control you and I am not your mother, and this is on the honour system. If you cheat you’re only cheating yourself.
Every month I'll put a new post in the community which will contain the join code for the leaderboard on Trackbear, and ask y'all what your goals are for the month.
You can do FerUnWriMo by itself or in conjunction with other writing challenges. You can drop in and out any month you like; you do not have to participate every month.
